Academy Award Predictions (2011)

I thought I should eventually do a post on my Academy Awards predictions for this year, so, here it is.

Best Picture:

J. Edgar:

Did you see how old these guys made Leonardo Dicaprio look? This movie looks overwhelmingly influential.

Best Director:

David Fincher for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Ok, how awesome does that look? This looks like it's going to be full of twists and turns. David Fincher has been the long awaited candidate for this category.

Best Actor:

Either Leonardo DiCaprio for J. Edgar or Brad Pitt for Moneyball. Or maybe even Gary Oldman for Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.

Best Screenplay:

Aaron Sorkin Moneyball. Sorkin also wrote the Oscar winning screenplay for The Social Network and you can really see the similarities between this movie and that.

Best Supporting Actor:

Phillip Seymour Hoffman for The Ides of March

While I am unsure of this one, I think he can pull it off, he was phenomenal in this movie, if he doesn't get the nomination Paul Giamatti sure will.

Best Score:

Trent Reznor for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

From the trailer you can just feel the intensity of the score.

Best Actress:

Michelle Williams for My Week with Marilyn.

Now I really know nothing about this movie however, from what I've heard the critics are raving about her and she is already predicted on other sites to be in this category.

Best Animaton:

The Adventures of Tintin

What other animations have there been this year? This has already gotten a high rating from the people of IMDB and a great Metascore rating, however these ratings are highly likely to change considering the movie didn't come out yet.

Other Movies to get nominated:

The Rum Diary (Johnny Depp)

Drive (Ryan Gosling)

Rise of The Planet of the Apes (Special effects)

The Help (I haven't seen it, everyone loved it, everyone loved it though. The question is if this is just a summer blockbuster or not.)

The Artist (Best Picture)

The Tree of Life (Terrence Malick, Best Cinematography, This was a great movie, it might be a little too artsy for the Academy)

War Horse (This is going to get nominated for a lot, trust me. The feel of the trailer is just so cliché though.

Melancholia (Kirsten Dunst, however I don't know if this is going to be open for wide release)

The Descendants (George Clooney, although he was good in The Ides of March he simply didn't have a big enough part)

Hugo (Best effects)

A Dangerous Method (Viggo Mortenson/Michael Fassbender, this is the type of movie the Academy would love)

Possibly Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

The Iron Lady (Meryl Streep)

Carnage (Roman Polanski, John C. Reilly)

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (Tom Hanks)

We Bought a Zoo (Matt Damon, maybe)
